SANTA CLARA, Calif., November 8, 2006—The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) with support from WebEx, the leading provider of collaborative software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, has published a white paper that takes a comprehensive look at the total cost of ownership (TCO) of software applications. This paper provides a detailed calculator of all the costs associated with purchasing and managing traditional on-premise software versus deploying software-as-a-service.

According to the SIIA paper, TCO comparisons of traditional software versus SaaS frequently underrepresent or omit the significant people and resource costs associated with managing and operating traditional on-premise software applications. These annual costs can be up to four times the initial software purchase price and can climb to more than 75% of a company’s IT budget.
